Here are some of the frequently asked questions about BoPi as a pool automation solution. If you don’t find the answers you need, feel free to contact us and we will provide you with an answer.
Most of the BoPi and BoPi Basic are shipped within 7 to 10 days following your completed order.
BoPi Max mais take up to 20 days as they are hand assembled to suit your specifications.
If you want a precise estimate, you can send us an email and we will give you the current lead time.
No, as of now it is not Open Source. It may be at some point but that creates issues regarding the Apps and the fact that BoPi OS only works on one of the BoPi Motherboards so there’s not much use for it.
Furthermore, should it be open source and forked, there is no way to maintain proper operation with the apps and cloud server which would create more issues than it is worth.
The temperature sensors used by BoPi are DS18B20 on 4 pole 3.5mm barrel connectors. One pole is unused and is a legacy of a previous solution.
Not really, it mostly depends on your pool’s size and configuration. We would however advise you to pay special attention to the cell that comes with it and how it needs to be mounted (orientation and tubing size) so that it is not a pain to install.
Not really. Most pool pumps are created equal and the differences between them has more to do with what characteristics you value the most.
We can maybe have an opinion but its just that, we haven’t tested all pool pumps in all situations.
The delay is due to the way it works. For security reasons and to not open your network to attacks, the server never calls on BoPi, it can’t. What happens is BoPi sends the pool’s values at regular intervals and in reply, the server tells it what to do.
The next time BoPi sends values, they will be updated with your last order.
This causes a few minutes of delay when you order something to BoPi but it is the safest way to do it.
You can connect to BoPi using your smartphone and our App (iOS or Android). The standard connection uses bluetooth so you’ll have to be relatively close to BoPi.
This will allow you to control it but also modify the settings including the wifi and BoPi Cloud settings.
Once the BoPi Cloud and wifi settings are completed, you will be able to remotely control BoPi from anywhere.
Yes, BoPi OS is made to be updated so that all BoPi get the new features that are added on a regular basis.
Updates are done manually through the apps so that there is no risk of BoPi OS updating at the wrong time.
Updates are not mandatory and you can keep using BoPi as it is if you do not want to update it.
Yes, multiple sensors are planned, some wired and some wireless but at this point the main focus is the production of BoPi Basic, BoPi and BoPi Max.
Yes and No. Such a sensor is on the roadmap and could be wired into the extra connector already present on all BoPi Basic, BoPi and BoPi Max but it is not yet production ready.

Yes and No, there is a connector for one but it is not yet production ready. It will be possible to add it at a later date.
The ORP/Redox sensor used by BoPi and BoPi Max are standard ORP probes, 12mm in diameter and measuring +/- 2000mV.
The pH sensor used by BoPi and BoPi Max are standard pH probes 12mm in diameter with a BNC connector and measuring +/-400mV.
Yes, using the app you can set a temperature offset if you feel it is needed. Keep in mind that the water temperature in the plumbing isn’t the same as in the pool on the surface.
Starting with version 2.x, BoPi will be able to use an external dosing pump, controlled by one of the relays to inject product into the pool’s plumbing.
This update will apply to all BoPis produced since day 1.
BoPis are assembled as fast as we can make them and all are tested during 72hrs prior to shipping to make sure it works as expected when it arrives.
The final assembly of the circuit board happens in France as well as the printing of the enclosures and wiring of switches, pumps and in the case of BoPi Max, the breakers.
If you want to know the specific lead time, please send us an email when you are ready to order and we can give you a precise estimate.
Yes, just send us an email and we will arrange for your preferred shipping method as much as we can.

Sadly no, we haven’t found a smaller enclosure that would accomodate all the breakers, light transformer and the BoPi Motherboard.
If you have a specific enclosure in mind, feel free to email us about it and we can look if it would fit.
Yes you can but you will also be responsible for the wiring of the electrical panel. Upon request by email, we can provide you with a quote for specifically what you require in the control panel and remove what you already have.
Only if you don’t have one provided with your pool lights and you plan on using a light kit that is compatible with either 50VA/12V or 100VA/12V.
We recommend you check the technical specifications of your pool lights to find out what they require.
It depends. The BoPi Max enclosure is technically waterproof and the sensor pass through are water tight. However the peristaltic pumps are not waterproof so if installed, they negate the waterproofness of the enclosure.
No, BoPi Basic is not made to be installed outside. Its place is in the pool’s technical room where it will stay dry.

Yes, BoPi can control an electrolysis generator (or not if its already linked to the pool pump) and with an ORP sensor, BoPi can report the current levels in the water.
If controlled by BoPi and with an ORP sensor, BoPi can turn it on or off based on the sensor value when the pump is running.
Yes, if its not already controlled by the pump, it can be controlled by BoPi and can be turned on with the pump, with or without a delay.
BoPi can’t however get the pH value from that external regulator. To get the pH value in the app, you will need to add another pH sensor. It is not necessary for correct operation of BoPi or the pool and could be added at anytime.
Yes, BoPi can control a variable speed pool pump if its control box (VFD) has inputs avaliable to control the pump’s operation and speed. As BoPi only has 4 avaliable relays, it will limit the number of things that can be controlled by BoPi but with 2 relays, the pump can be turned on and off and control one speed beyond the default one that can be permanently enabled if the pump is on.
Such wiring will give you 2 speeds and the ability to turn it off while still allowing BoPi to control the pool lights and either a heat pump or electrolysis if needed.
Yes, it is possible to replace the single pole breakers by dual pole breakers if needed. Please send us an email with your specific needs so we can provide you with a quote.
Yes, it is possible to get BoPi Max on special order in an 18 breaker Box. If you need such a special order, please send us an email so we can make it avaliable to you.
Yes, BoPi can regulate chlorine level using the ORP/Redox sensor and one of the peristaltic pumps to inject liquid chlorine in the pool’s plumbing.
Yes, BoPi can regulate pH using its pH sensor and one of the two possible peristaltic pump. It would usually then inject pH- solution in the pool’s plumbing.
